L. Bauer off to state bowling tournament

ROCKFORD – Mendota High School bowler Landon Bauer earned a berth in the IHSA State Bowling Tournament after his performance in the Rockford Guilford Boys’ Sectional Bowling Tournament on Jan. 21 at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford.

Bauer, a junior, was one of the top seven bowlers not on a state qualifying team, which earned him a trip to state. Bauer, who finished in ninth place overall among the 145 individuals in the sectional, rolled a six-game series of 1312. His game scores were 256, 195, 201, 221, 245 and 194.

Charlie Hunt of Rockton Hononegah was the individual sectional champion with a 1445 series.

The top six schools in the team standings that will move on to the state tournament are Rockton Hononegah (6544), Machesney Park Harlem (6494), Belvidere North (6022), Huntley (5877), Mundelein (5876) and Lake Zurich (5867).

MHS freshman Paxton Bauer also competed in the sectional tournament, but did not qualify for the state meet. His 1148 series included games of 207, 127, 234, 222, 168 and 190.

The state bowling tournament is set for Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon.
