Knox County Scenic Drive returns the first two weekends in October

KNOXVILLE - Historic Walnut Grove Farm and seven other official stops on the Knox County Scenic Drive are back for an in-person event this year. The farm’s theme is “Come Home - Celebrating Family, Friends and Art.”

Specializing in hand made art, homemade food, homegrown produce and family activities has been the strength of the Barn Fest at Walnut Grove Farm. Anyone can enter the pumpkin decorating contest, which takes place during the 45th anniversary of the Knox County Scenic Drive the first two weekends in October, Oct. 2-3 and 9-10. Walnut Grove Farm will also display entries in the “Kids Rock the Arts” Contest, sponsored by Blick Art Materials and the Galesburg Community Art Center. The farm, an official stop on the Knox County Scenic Drive, is located one-half mile north of Knoxville. For a schedule of events and directions, visit www.Barn-Fest.com.

The Knox County Scenic Drive is a self-guided fall foliage tour that has become a family tradition for thousands. The drive began as a way to preserve and showcase the historic sites in the county, and today provides old time family fun with demonstrations of traditional crafts and work skills. The event at Walnut Grove Farm has evolved to include fine art, local foods, farm produce and kids’ activities.

The kid fun includes farm animals, a mini ag-fair presented by the Knoxville FFA (Oct. 9 only), carriage rides, petting zoo and a pumpkin decorating contest for all ages. Taste open kettle stew, gourmet fudge and caramel apples and shop for original artisan work.

Show coordinator Rich Wood is excited to welcome everyone back to Knox County this year. “We’re back with great art, food, farm produce and family fun,” he said. “Come on home!”
