MALTA – The Continuing Education Department at Kishwaukee College will offer a short-term training program in Sterile Processing Technology this fall. Sterile Processing Technicians are health care professionals who provide support to all patient care services in a health care facility. They are responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, processing, assembling, sterilizing, storing and distributing medical devices and supplies needed in patient care, especially during surgery.
The Sterile Tech Program will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Sept. 4 thorugh Dec. 18. Classes will be held from 6-9 p.m. The Sterile Processing program consists of 75 hours of classroom instruction and a 10-hour non-paid externship in a sterile processing facility.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in the Sterile Processing field is expected to grow 12 percent from 2016-2026, faster than the average for all occupations.
An Informational Session will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 6-7 p.m., on campus in room B1276 for anyone who is interested in the program or would like the opportunity to ask questions before registering.
