Kewanee tops F-S Trojans

MENDOTA – Kewanee doubled up Mendota, 16-8, in freshman-sophomore football action on Sept. 11 at the MHS field.

Kewanee got the scoring started with a 59-yard touchdown run at the 1:37 mark of the first quarter, followed by a successful two-point conversion run.

The Trojans tied the game with 5:27 left before halftime on a 3-yard TD run by Jayden Lesley and then a two-point conversion run by Javier Hernandez.

Less than two minutes later, Kewanee broke the tie on a 14-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion run.

That proved to cap off the scoring as neither team got on the board in the second half.

Mendota (0-3) outgained Kewanee, 182-173, with all of the Trojans’ yards coming on the ground. Lesley led the way with 27 carries for 156 yards.
