MENDOTA - Kenneth Eugene Buster, 70, of Mendota passed away Sept. 13, 2018 at OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital, Rockford.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Holy Cross Church with Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota with military honors by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be from 9–11 a.m. on Sept. 19 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.

Ken was born April 9, 1948 in Mendota to Carl and Norma (Becket) Buster. He married Rosemary Lauer on Aug. 5, 1972 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Sublette.

Survivors include his wife, Rose of Mendota; two daughters, Cori (Keith) Hungerford of Mendota and Jill (Jared) Beane of Montgomery; six grandchildren, Julie Berg, Brett Berg, Jacob Berg, Madyson Beane, Kennedy Beane and Dakota Hungerford; his mother, Norma Buster of Mendota; two brothers, Leonard Buster of Peru and David (Amy) Buster of Mendota; and one sister, Gloria (Lonnie) Kent of Plymouth.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Leigh Ann and his father.

Ken served in the U.S. Air Force for four years as a staff sergeant in DECM and SAC in Korea during the Vietnam War. He worked at Caterpillar in Aurora as an electrical engineer for 38 years. He was a member of Mendota Elks Lodge 1212 and Mendota VFW Post 4079. He was an avid golfer, tinkerer and lover of all things science. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. Trips up north held a special spot in his heart. He could be counted on to fix anything broken, share random facts or make you crack up at a silly joke. He loved working and spent many hours doing what he loved in his so-called retirement. He never met a stranger and he will be missed greatly by all who had the pleasure to know him.

Memorials may be directed to Mendota Elks Lodge 1212.
