MALTA – Area artists will have a new studio space beginning in January: the Kishwaukee College Art Studios. The Continuing Education department is offering the studio space for public use beginning in January. The Open Studio is not a formal class, though Kishwaukee College art faculty will be in the studios to assist students. Space is limited and registration is required. Cost per person for the Open Studio is $199.
Jewelry Open Studio will begin on Jan. 8 with an information session from 6 -7 p.m. The regular Open Studio will be on Mondays, Jan. 22 through March 12. Jewelry/Metalworking instructor, Dan Connelly, MFA, will monitor the studio and provide assistance and demonstrations as requested. He is familiar with a variety of techniques including lost wax casting, hydraulic press forming, rolling mill texturing, etching, forming and raising. The cost of the Jewelry Open Studio includes supplies (excluding silver).
Ceramics Open Studio will begin on Jan. 9 with an information session from 6 -7 p.m. followed by an Orientation Session on January 16 also from 6 – 7 p.m. The regular Open Studio will be on Tuesdays, Jan. 23 through March 13. Cost includes clay, glazes, storage space and kiln time. Participants must provide their own towel, gallon bucket, pottery tools, brushes and containers for glazing.
