Kapp turns old tools into rusty yard art

OTTAWA – Gail Kapp will speak at the next meeting of the LaSalle County Genealogy Guild.

Kapp enjoys repurposing old wood, tools, farm machinery, car parts, and discarded metal into rusty yard art.

Thirteen years ago, on a trip to Chicago, he came across a metal sculpture. He saw a familiar object used to create the piece. This piqued his interest. Next, he purchased a welder and chop saw. That is how it all started for Kapp.

Kapp and his wife enjoy visiting rummage sales, flea markets, farm auctions, and even scrap yards to find materials. Items he enjoys creating are flowers, animals, insects, and signs. His most challenging project was creating five life-size pieces for a man from California for his country retreat.

The presentation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. at the LaSalle County Genealogy Guild library, 115 Glover St. in Ottawa. All are welcome to attend. For more information, call (815) 433-5261.
