Johnsons celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

COMPTON – Mr. and Mrs. Joel Johnson (Jean McClendon) of rural Compton are celebrating 50 years of marriage. The Johnsons were united in marriage on Aug. 5, 1972 at Oglesby Union Church in the bride’s hometown of Oglesby. The Rev. Donald McClintock officiated.
The couple was attended by Maid of Honor Mary (Dittmar) Whipple, Best Man Lyne Scheidenhelm, bridesmaids Carrie (Brown) Lijewski, Julia Wade, Jill (Johnson) McNeill, Mary Ann (Kosmecki) Humphrey, and groomsmen Gary Johnson, Bruce Dinges, Mike Kilmartin, and Jim Wade. Following the wedding, they honeymooned with a memorable road trip adventure to Acapulco, Mexico.
The Johnsons have four children, Jessie (Michael) Robinette of Mission, Kan.; Luke (Kelli) Johnson of Wheaton; Neil (Melissa) Johnson of Janesville, Wis.; and Brynn (Paul) Honeycutt of Plainfield. They have eight beautiful grandchildren, Jacob, 14, Brady, 11, Erin, 11, Quinn, 7, Levi, 7, Carson, 6, Samuel, 6, and Jean-Marie, 5.
