Northbrook School Principal Paula Daley, left, and Lincoln School Principal Vicki Johnson recognize eighth graders Edwin Mendoza and Karli Althaus and fourth graders Brooklyn Baxa and Ryder Woods as this year’s recipients of the Illinois Principal Association’s John Ourth Award. The students were selected by their teachers to represent Northbrook and Lincoln Schools at the John Ourth Student Recognition Breakfast at Streator High School on Feb. 21. The breakfast was sponsored by the Starved Rock Region of the Illinois Principals Association. Students were nominated by their teacher based on character, citizenship, leadership skills, and scholarship as well as possessing the potential to make a change in the world. Those selected were then voted on by staff. John Ourth is remembered by members of the IPA for his commitment to causes such as the IPA and the National Association for Elementary School Principals. Amy Jo Mascal, Streator High School principal, was also recognized as Illinois’ Principal of the Year. (Photo contributed)
