MENDOTA - Joe C. Arteaga, Sr., 79, of Mendota passed away June 1, 2017 at the Mendota Lutheran Home surrounded by his loving family.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on June 5 with Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation was from 1-4 p.m. on June 4 at the Schwarz Funeral Home with a rosary at 1 p.m.
Joe was born July 16, 1937 in San Pedro, Mexico to Juan and Beatrice Arteaga. He married Elida Arredondo on Oct. 28, 1962 in Plainview, Texas.
Survivors include his wife of Mendota; two sons, Joe Jr. (Lillia) Arteaga of Mendota and Johnny Ray (Anna) Arteaga of Mendota; one daughter, Anita (Tommy) Alcozer of Plainview, Texas; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Amelia (Alfredo) Arredondo of Mendota.
He was preceded in death by one son, Frankie Arteaga; one infant son, Carlos Arteaga; two brothers, Leo Arteaga and Pete Arteaga; and his parents.
Pallbearers were his brother-in-law, Roy Arredondo; his nephews, David Arteaga, Henry Arteaga, Juan Arteaga, Leo Arteaga, Oscar Arteaga and Ray Arteaga; and his godson, Rudy Arteaga Jr.
During his working life, Joe worked for 12 years at Silica Sand/Manley Bros. and then worked in maintenance for the Housing Authority, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Holy Cross Church.
Memorials may be directed to the Mendota Lutheran Home or Holy Cross Church.
