Jerald L. Hild

MENDOTA - Jerald “Jerry” L. Hild, 80, of Mendota passed away March 31, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the funeral.

Jerald was born Oct. 14, 1938 on a farm near Malden to Carl and Helen (Frizell) Hild.

Survivors include two daughters, Rose (Brad) Bonnell of Mendota and Robin Farris of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Sharon Studer and Felice (Jerry) Mitchell, both of Milan; five grandchildren, Danny (Patty) Blackburn, Heather Polk, Amanda Hild, Lawrence Farris and Jaleesa Farris; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Mimi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jerry Hild, Jr. in 1999; and two brothers, Ralph Hild and Howard Hild.

Jerry graduated from LaMoille High School in 1956 where he participated in track, football and basketball and was known as Hoppy! He worked for Del Monte for 37 years before retiring in 1994. He also worked for Schimmer, Inc. for 17 years retiring in 2011. He was a member of the Mendota Moose Lodge since 1976, Mendota Elks Lodge since 1972, LaMoille Calument Masonic Lodge #270 of Homewood since 1961 and Eastern Star #46 of Rochelle Chapter 1030 since 1963. He was an avid drag racing and NASCAR fan, rarely missing a race on television. He was a football, basketball and baseball fan and loved the Cubs. He loved spending time with his family the most and loved his little dog Mimi.
