PERU - Jean F. (Currie) Smith, 89, of Peru, passed away Jan. 13, 2018 at Heritage Manor in Peru surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru with Pastor Steve Breathlove of Victory Baptist Church, Mendota officiating. Burial will follow at Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Jean was born Dec. 24, 1928 in Peru to Adam and Areitta (Wibralski) Currie. She married Walter “Ed” Smith on April 28, 1950 at the First Congregational Church in Peru. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1969.
Survivors include two children, Terri (Michael) Smith of Peru and Kent (Mercy) Smith of Mendota; five grandchildren, Thomas and Joel Smith, and Abigail, Bryanna and Dominique Smith and six great-grandchildren, Aly Smith, Emily Smith, Landen Mattingley, Maci Mattingley, Maya Kunz and Brantley Kunz.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Gary Smith; and one brother, Jack Currie.
Jean worked at Westclox, was a member of the Ladd Bowling League, Harmonaires of Peru, Lyrics of Peru and the First Congregational Church Choir.
Memorials may be directed to a local food pantry.
