FREEPORT - Janet Ann Saunders, 89, of Freeport passed away April 22, 2017 in Freeport.
Schwarz Funeral Home in Freeport is handling arrangements for the family. A private burial ceremony will be held in Mendota at a later date.
Janet was born May 26, 1927 in Mendota to William and Julia Saunders.
Survivors include one niece, Penelope (Philip) Symes; two nephews, Michael and Stephen (Margaret) Ehlbeck; great-nieces, a great-nephew and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Kenneth Ehlbeck; and one niece, Lora Ehlbeck.
Janet attended school in Dixon and graduated from the University of Southern California, where she majored in theater arts. She performed in many plays during college and in summer stock with the Belfry Players in Delavan, Wis. She lived in New York City where she was able to pursue her acting dreams and eventually returned to Dixon where she worked as a librarian at the public library until her retirement. She was a member of Saint Anne's Catholic Church in Dixon.
