OGLESBY - Illinois Valley Community College’s Sigma Kappa Delta members recently installed a Little Free Library, which houses give-and-take books accessible to the public, at Hy-Vee in Peru. It was one of several the group is donating to area communities. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 17 at HyVee.

SKD is the college’s two-year college English Honor Society which strives to promote English and literacy. Memers chose the locations and built the boxes from scratch.

“We are thrilled to be completing this community project,” said SKD President Akari Oya. “We could not have done it without the help of Aseret and David Loveland, the enthusiastic donors of this project.”

SKD Secretary Justin Lewis commented, “Knowing that a project I helped work on will be beneficial to the community is a great feeling, and working together with the other members of SKD was a fun and valuable experience.”

In addition to the Hy-Vee location, members plan to install three more libraries this summer at Fourth Street Bakery & Cafe in Peru, Finns Ice Cream & More in Streator, and Roxie’s Sweet Confections in Utica. Everyone is welcome to take or contribute a book to the libraries and help spread the joy of reading.
