IV Hospice to host “My Treasure Chest” workshop for children

PERU - A free workshop for children ages 6–14 who have experienced the death of someone close to them will be offered by Illinois Valley Hospice on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The workshop will take place at the Illinois Valley Community Hospital office building, 1305 Sixth St. in Peru.

Lisa Casford, IV Hospice spiritual counselor and workshop director, said the My Treasure Chest workshop lets children remember their loved ones by creating their own unique treasure chest of memories. “We want children to know they have the right to their own unique feelings and a right to talk about these feelings,” she explained.

Casford said children will listen to stories, design their own treasure chests, sing songs, and fill out a workbook to remember their loved ones. All materials and lunch will be provided. Children are asked to bring a picture of their loved one or any small keepsake that reminds them of the relative or friend they have lost.

For more information about and to register for the workshop, call Illinois Valley Hospice at (815) 224-1307.
