LA SALLE - Illinois Senator Daniel Biss will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Illinois Valley Democrats. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 at the LaSalle VFW.
Biss, who currently represents the 9th District in the Illinois Senate, is a candidate for governor. A native of Bloomington, Ind., he moved to Chicago after completing his Bachelor’s degree at Harvard University and his Ph.D. in mathematics at M.I.T. Prior to serving in the Illinois Senate, he spent one term in the Illinois House representing the 17th District.
During his time as a legislator, Biss has expanded access, equity and care for all Illinoisans, fought for financial security for families and worked to protect the environment. He has also sponsored a bill in the Illinois Senate that would require anyone filing as a candidate for U.S. president to release their income tax return before being placed on the Illinois ballot.
The meeting will include discussion on some of the promises Governor Rauner, who had no governmental experience prior to being elected, made and has not kept. They will also discuss President Trump, who also had no governmental experience, and what the Democrats describe as his “reckless behavior.”
This year’s membership dues of $5 are now due and will be collected at the April 27 meeting.
The LaSalle VFW is located at 2325 Donahue St. (Rt. 351) in LaSalle.
