MENDOTA - The basketball court area at Strouss Park in Mendota now has a new playing surface and baskets after members of the Mendota Optimist Club installed the four baskets on July 27. Austin O’Sadnick, left on ladder, and Todd O’Sadnick, right on ladder, steady the acrylic backboard as Mark Wixom, top left, and Eric Gleim line it up for final installation. There are two full-size courts measuring 90x98 with an all-weather outdoor surface made of plastic squares interlocked with holes to allow for drainage. The removable court can also be used in the winter for ice skating if the surface is filled with water above the top of the plastic squares. Lighting for the area is a possibility in the future. The Optimist Club and the Mendota Lions Club partnered with the city of Mendota to make the project a reality. (Reporter photo)
