MENDOTA - When HGTV recently launched a nationwide call to find towns that could use a “Home Town” makeover, Imagine Mendota answered the call. The network is planning a new series called “Home Town Takeover,” in which the hosts will lead a team of renovation pros as they makeover a small town with a population of 40,000 or less.
Communities had until Feb. 4 to enter a short video and explanation of why their town deserves to be featured in the special series. Applicants were asked to highlight aspects of their town that make it special, fascinating, historic or unique and include distinctive features such as vintage period architecture, special destinations or a classic main street.
Steve Lauer of Imagine Mendota said even though it’s a long shot to win, the group decided to go ahead and enter. “Tom Smith put together a nice film and wrote a story to go with it,” Lauer said. “We’ll see what happens.”
