WALNUT – The Mendota cross country athletes competed in the Bureau Valley Invitational on Sept. 15 at Walnut. There were 33 schools in the event.
Devin Wade had the best finish among the Lady Trojan runners in 89th place with a time of 24:38. Also running for Mendota were Jesenya Avila (26:48, 142nd), Gabi Brown (27:22, 151st), Piper Artman (27:29, 154th) and Jacqueline Keeton (31:52, 182nd).
Emma Argo of Eureka set a new course record in the girls' race with a time of 18:26.
Eureka won the meet, edging out Rock Falls 45-48, while Stanford Olympia tallied 68 points.
Mendota did not have any competitors in the varsity boys’ race.
Dawson Smith of Rock Falls finished first overall in a time of 16:08.
Stanford Olympia had the top team total of 64 points, with Rock Falls edging Eureka for second, 130-132.
The freshman-sophomore race (2.5 miles) was won by Thomas Harmon of Elmwood/Brimfield in a time of 14:26.
Mendota had four runners entered in the event, with Ty Connelly taking 39th place in a time of 17:41. Other results included Andrew Stamberger (17:53, 40th), Trent Stamberger (18:14, 44th) and Hunter Siebert (24:36, 80th).
Elwood/Brimfield won the team results with 16 points.
