Harriers compete in BNC meet

WINNEBAGO – Mendota High School’s harriers competed in the Big Northern Conference Meet on Oct. 19 at Fuller Forest Preserve near Winnebago.

The girls’ varsity race was won by Rock Falls senior Bailee Fortney in a time of 16:26. Natalia Matino of Winnebago was second in 16:43 and Paige Stees of Dixon placed third in 17:06.

Mendota’s top finish belonged to Lily Linden, who placed 49th in a time of 22:36. Piper Artman finished 66th with a time of 30:40.

Winnebago earned the conference title with 30 points, ahead of Dixon’s 46 and Rock Falls’ 48. Mendota did not post a team score.

The boys’ varsity race was won by Rock Falls senior Dawson Smith, who registered a time of 14:13, distancing himself from Dixon runners Christian Seagren (14:39) and Brock Drengenberg (14:56).

Andrew Stamberger had Mendota’s top performance, placing 35th in a time of 17:23. Other Mendota finishes were Trent Stamberger (18:10, 43rd), Ty Connelly (18:12, 44th), Alex Hermosillo (18:58, 55th), Sam Lawrence (19:47, 62nd) and Nevin Fouke (19:51, 63rd).

The Dixon boys’ team posted a total of 24 points for the conference championship, with Rockford Christian second (66) and Rock Falls third (93). Mendota placed ninth with 238 points.

Mendota participants in the JV race were Liam Indigo (21:46) and Hunter Siebert (22:11).
