WINNEBAGO – Nine Northern Illinois high schools sent their cross country teams to the Winnebago Season Opener meet held Sept. 5 at Fuller Forest Preserve.
Natalia Martino of Winnebago held the top time in the girls’ race with a time of 12:35 on the 2.05 mile course. Mendota's top time belonged to Lily Linden in 16:34. Other Mendota times were Devin Wade (17:34), Gabi Brown (17:54), Bonnie Hall (18:42) and Piper Artman (19:11).
Winnebago tallied the winning score of 31, followed by Genoa-Kingston (51) and North Boone (93). Mendota was seventh with 184 points.
Devin Tervelt of Winnebago won the boys’ race in 10:54, leading his team to top honors (26 points) over North Boone's 57.
Ty Connelly was Mendota's lone male participant, finishing in 14:42.
