Harriers compete at Oregon, Streator events

Mendota was one of eight schools to participate in a meet at Oregon on Sept. 26.

The girls' race featured 39 harriers and was won by Stockton's Haley Brudi, covering the 3-mile course in a time of 22:17.

Mendota's top finishes went to Devin Wade (16th, 25:15) and Jesenya Avila (20th, 26:35). Gabbi Brown (23rd, 28:00), Piper Artman (25th, 28:06) and Jacquelyn Keeton (35th, 31:09) also finished for the Lady Trojans.

Oregon's girls posted the top score of 23 points.  Mendota was fourth with 78 points.

In the boys' run of 45 runners, Brian Nevills of West Carroll won comfortably with a time of 18:04.

Ty Connelly turned in Mendota's top finish in 18th place with a time of 21:31. Other participants for the Trojans were Andrew Stamberger (20th, 21:43), Trent Stamberger (29th, 22:20) and Hunter Siebert (40th, 25:44).

North Boone had the top team score of 38. Mendota did not post a team score.

Cross country teams from LaSalle County gathered to race at Eastwood Golf Course in Streator on Sept. 29.

Freshman Audrey Jenkins of Seneca won the girls’ competition in convincing fashion, traversing the three-mile course in 18:00.

Wade turned in the top performance for Mendota in 16th place with a time of 22:30. Avila was next through the chute for the Lady Trojans (24th, 24:14), followed by Artman (28th, 25:35), Brown (29th, 25:38) and Keeton (34th, 27:35).

Seneca won the team title with 22 points over L-P's 46.  Mendota finished fifth.

Christopher Collet of Seneca had the top performance in the boys' race with a time of 14:52.

Mendota was represented by Andrew Stamberger (37th, 19:18), Connelly (38th, 19:19), Trent Stamberger (51st, 20:22), Malte Hein (72nd, 28:52) and Matt Grenter (73rd, 32:48).

Seneca’s boys had the top team finish with 29 points and L-P was second with 37. Mendota placed fifth with 151.
