MENDOTA – A city treasurer was appointed and several new employees were hired at the April 19 meeting of the Mendota City Council.

Since no one ran for the vacant position as Mendota city treasurer in the April 6 election, Mayor David Boelk was tasked with appointing a new treasurer and his recommendation of Heath Davis was approved by the council. Davis will begin his duties on May 1. He is employed by Black Bros. Co. in Mendota.

In Aldermanic reports, Jay Miller presented the annual license renewals for 2021-22 and they were approved by the council.

Alderman Kyle Kim informed the council that Len Schwemlein and Jim Hampson have donated a new Purple Martin bird house to replace the one on the west side of Lake Mendota. Kim thanked the two men for their generous donation.

Alderman John Holland presented the annual wage ordinance, which was approved by the council.

During alderman Jim Fitzpatrick’s report, the council approved the hiring of three new city employees. Sean Fox will join the water department, while Ethan Guelde and Jackson Prather will work in the street department.

The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be held on Monday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m.
