Gugerty to present BCGS program via Zoom

PRINCETON - The Bureau County Genealogical Society will host a program via Zoom on Thursday evening, Feb. 25 presented by David Gugerty on the topic of the Henry Immke Collection.

Gugerty is curator of the Bureau County Historical Society Museum where the Immke Collection is housed. His experience includes work at the university museum at SIU Carbondale and positions at arts centers in Kentucky and North Carolina.

This rare and valuable collection is the result of the photography work done by Immke during the time period from 1866 until 1923 in Princeton and the Bureau County area.

Gugerty will discuss the life and career of Henry William Immke and share with the audience how they can contact the Bureau County Historical Society Museum to see if the huge collection of over 18,000 glass plates might have pictures of interest to them, whether of people or historic scenes. Surname searches, digital scans and archival reprints can be made for the public at very reasonable rates by contacting the museum.

The program is open to the public and will be presented online via Zoom beginning at 7 p.m. Individuals who are not current members of BCGS need to send an e-mail request to the Genealogy Society at bureaucounty@gmail.com requesting an invitation no later than Feb. 23. A link will then be sent for the presentation.

BCGS is open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. For safety during the pandemic, appointments to research appreciated to ensure a staff person is present. For further information about the program or visiting the BCGS library, please call (815) 879-3133.
