MENDOTA – Gregory R. Forney, 71, of Mendota, passed away May 18, 2023, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford with his loving wife and daughter by his side.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Vicar Anthony Windau officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, LaSalle. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Greg was born Aug. 7, 1951, in LaSalle, to Norman and Gertrude (Cilla) Forney. He married Judy (Kreiser) Edwards on Aug. 28, 2003. 

Greg is survived by his loving wife Judy of Mendota; his daughter Trisha Jamison of Lostant; his two stepsons, Chad (Meagan) Edwards and Brian Edwards, both of Mendota; his brother, Gary (Jean) Forney of Marshalltown, Iowa; and his two grandsons, Everett and Owen Jamison and step grandson Cooper Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Justin Forney in 2012.

Greg was a 1969 graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School and a graduate of Illinois Valley Community College. He retired from American Nickeloid Company in 2019 after 42 years of service. Greg was an avid golfer and a member of Mendota Golf Course. He loved his fast sports cars, Chicago Bears and his family. A few of his favorite things were going to car shows, wintering in Naples, Fla., spending time with his grandsons and playing with his furbabies Gabi and Gertie. Greg was always the one to call when you needed directions, a ride or have anything fixed. Greg will be sorely missed but love all our memories.
