MENDOTA - Graves-Hume Public Library in Mendota re-opened to the public on June 29. They are now back to their normal operating hours, Monday-Thursday 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The library requires everyone entering the building to practice social distancing and wear a face mask. Library staff is routinely cleaning the public areas of the building and they are quarantining items that have been returned to the library.

Curbside pickup is still available for those who wish to have library staff bring items out to their vehicle. To request curbside pickup, call the library at (815) 538-5142 and a staff member will bring the items you requested to the parking lot. Library Director Emily Kofoid encourages library patrons to take advantage of the curbside pickup. “If you feel uncomfortable coming into the library, please call us and we’d love to gather books or DVDs for you,” she said.

Library staff have also been hard at work adding the new DVD section. The DVDs are now accessible by title for easier browsing. Kofoid noted that four of the public service computers are accessible and other services such as scanning, fax and printing are also available. New items are arriving at the library for all ages and are ready to be borrowed.

Kofoid expressed her appreciation to the community for their patience and understanding while the library was closed. “Staff are thrilled to be back at work full time serving our community,” she said. “It’s great to see all of our patrons again and I love hearing what others read while they were at home during the quarantine. My to-read list has grown immensely these past few days. There’s so much to read!”
