MENDOTA - Gladys M. Schmitt, 95, of Mendota passed away Feb. 18, 2019 at the Mendota Lutheran Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21 at Holy Cross Church with Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at the Schwarz Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Donald DeWaele, Ronald, Steve and Tom Schmitt, Alan Teauseau and Richard Wujek.

Gladys was born March 27, 1923 at Harris Hospital in Mendota to Milton and Adah (Hiltabrand) Teauseau. She married Donald C. Schmitt on Oct. 10, 1943. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1972.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Marvin) DeWaele of Mendota; three grandchildren, Pam (Bill) Hensley of Mendota, Mark DeWaele of Mendota and Don (Angela) DeWaele of Mendota; nine great-grandchildren; and two half brothers, Robert Teauseau and Charles (Myrna) Teauseau, both of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Adah and William Leifeit, Tony and Betty Teauseau; and a son-in-law, Martin Schrader.

Gladys attended Mendota schools and graduated with the class of 1941. Following her husband’s death in 1972, she worked at Spurgeon Department Store until it closed in July of 1993. She was a member of Holy Cross Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Through the years she spent many hours doing volunteer work for Holy Cross School, Mendota Tri-County Fair, Hume-Carnegie Museum, Nightengale’s Closet and Thrift Store, and the Mendota Food Pantry.
