MENDOTA – It was a great start to the soccer season for the Mendota Lady Trojans as they had their offense in high gear with an 8-1 romp over Rochelle on March 19.
Piper Artman scored two goals, both in the first half, as the Lady Trojans opened a 4-0 lead at intermission. Tatyanna Carreon and Daisy Arteaga also found the net in the first half.
Mendota kept up the scoring machine in the second half with two goals from Amellia Bromenschenkel and one apiece off the legs of Carrie Arteaga and Esmeralda Perez.
Assists went to Artman (three), Daisy Arteaga and Bromenschenkel.
Bianca Espinoza was in goal for Mendota.
Mendota was a 2-0 winner in the junior varsity contest. Goals went to Crystal Martinez and Espinoza. Goalies Juliana Sarabia and Jesenya Avila combined to pitch the shutout.

Mendota hosted Plano on March 21 and came away with a 3-0 win.
Daisy Arteaga scored off of an assist from Bromenschenkel as Mendota grabbed a 1-0 halftime lead.
The Lady Trojans added a pair of goals in the second half on a free kick from Artman and a Bromenschenkel goal assisted by Daisy Arteaga.
Espinoza was between the pipes and held Plano scoreless.
Mendota blanked Plano in the junior varsity game, 4-0. Dylana Shankle, Evelyn Orozco, Jocelyn Serrano and Espinoza had the goals, while Sarabia and Avila shared time in goal.
