Geuthers celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

LaMOILLE – Mr. and Mrs. Mark (Nora) Geuther, high school sweethearts, of rural LaMoille, celebrated their 50th anniversary on the 4th of July. Thanks to COVID-19, they had a small family gathering for a family photo, lunch at Ziggie’s in Mendota, and a cookout for supper. All their children and grandchildren were in attendance.

Mark Geuther and Nora Lamkin were married Aug. 8, 1970 at Clarion Lutheran Church with Rev. Ernie Serr officiating. Witnesses were Jolyn Whitfield, sister of the bride; Melody Sheahan, sister of groom; Alan Molln and Norm Steele (now deceased), friends of the couple.

The Geuthers spent their first year in Wildflecken, Baveria, West Germany while Mark served in the U.S. Army. They have three sons, Troy (Christy Schwally) of Brentwood, Tenn., Chad (Allison Morris) of rural Amboy, and Lance (Becky Kasap) of Findlay, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Ellie, Weston, Cadence and Mia.

Mr. Geuther is a Certified IHSA Official and has been to State level three times. He is a member of the PBOA and has held several offices. He is a charter member of the LaMoille Lions Club and past officer. He also helped start the LaMoille Athletic Boosters at LaMoille High School.

Mrs. Geuther is a retired paraprofessional for Dalzell and LaMoille Unit 303, where she worked in all three elementary buildings for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Clarion Home Extension and LaMoille Athletic Boosters. She was a past Sunday school teacher and treasurer, and volunteered for the Red Cross Bloodmobile.

The Guethers both volunteered for summer baseball leagues in LaMoille and participate in the “St. Jude Ride Princeton to Memphis Ride” sponsored by Walter Bros. Harley Davidson yearly. (And they appreciated their supporters!)
