AMBOY - Trucking regulations can be complicated, and farm exemptions compound that complexity. It seems that everyone has a different answer to questions.
The Lee County Farm Bureau will host a two-hour seminar on Thursday, Feb. 15 that focuses on trucking laws - old and new - specifically for farmers. A new format will be used this year to remind attendees of rules that apply and help identify means of relief. And a new segment will use attendees’ real-life examples to illustrate how regulations affect farmers.
Throughout it all, those attending will be able to ask the farm trucking questions for which everyone seems to have an opinion but no one can agree on an answer.
Trucking laws have been reshaped in recent years with more changes scheduled for 2018. Rules affected include farmer exemptions, Harvest Season Emergency permit, longer trucks on local roads, Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs), UCR filing deadline, anhydrous ammonia nurse tank movements, and proof of citizenship requirements.
Presenting the seminar will be Kevin Rund and Kirby Wagner who specialize in farm transportation issues for the Illinois Farm Bureau. Attendees will also receive take-home materials covering these topics. Join the seminar at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15 at the Lee County Farm Bureau, 37 S. East Ave, Amboy to find out what you need to know.
The seminar is free courtesy of your county and state Farm Bureaus but advance registration is requested. Please call (815) 857-3531 to reserve a spot and get your farm trucking questions answered.
