LA SALLE - Gertrude “Gert” F. Forney, 97, of LaSalle, passed away May 16, 2019 at the Mendota Lutheran Home.
A private memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Fellowship Church, Peru at a later date. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, LaSalle. Merritt Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Gert was born Nov. 5, 1921 in LaSalle to Michael and Mary (Festa) Cilla. She married Norman E. Forney on July 21, 1945 at First Baptist Church, LaSalle. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Gary (Jean) Forney of Surprise, Ariz. and Greg (Judy) Forney of Mendota; three grandchildren, Trish, Heath and Heidi; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two step grandsons, Brian Edwards and Chad Edwards; one sister, Connie (Lou) Strom of Tennessee; one brother, Dom Cilla of Wheaton; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson, Justin Forney; and one sister, Mena Rounds.
Gert worked at Westclox, Senica Shipyards during World War II and retired from Sears Roebuck in 1969. She loved singing at weddings and playing the organ. She dedicated her life to her family, friends, and her Lord.
