PRINCETON - Time again for heroes and villains to descend on the Bureau County Fairgrounds in Princeton for the 6th annual 5K Superhero Showdown. The date for this year’s 3.1 mile run/walk has been set for Saturday, June 22 at 8 a.m. Check-in and final registration will take place from 7-7:30 a.m. Cost is $20 per participant.

The route will be the same as previous years, and prizes will be given in various age categories. A prize will also be given for the best superhero and villain costumes. Costumes are optional, of course.

There will again be a “Duck Drop” following the 5K race and awards presentation. Rubber ducks smartly attired in hero or villain costumes are available for purchase as follows: a single duck is $5; a “quack pack” is 6 ducks for $25; and a “flock” is 30 ducks for $100. 5K participants will automatically receive a duck. The numbered ducks will descend from the skies, and if your number lands on a prize target, you win! Top prizes are $500, $250, and $100. Other amazing prizes are also available as they are generously donated by area businesses and friends of Gateway.

To complete your 5K registration or to purchase a duck, visit the website at www.gateway5K.com or find the link on their Facebook page. You may also stop at their main office at 406 S. Gosse Blvd., Princeton to complete a purchase, or contact them at (815) 875-4548 to register via phone.

Bureau County Fairgrounds is located at 811 W. Peru St., Princeton.
