PAW PAW – A Paw Paw Village Board meeting was held April 10.
A representative from Republic Services Waste Disposal explained to the board that the recyclables picked up from Paw Paw are 65 percent contaminated with food refuse.
China is no longer accepting any foreign recyclables/garbage. Republic Services is requesting a $0.68 increase in each household’s monthly garbage bill to cover cost of paying for recycling.
As the yearly increase of 3.5 percent will already be in effect for the villagers, the board is taking the request under consideration.
April 29-30 will be the semi-yearly town clean-up and garbage pick-up.
Karen Vlasaty gave an update on how the house-history project is going. She still needs each household to submit their reflections. Even if the house is “new,” years from now a new owner will be interested in its history.
Some homes have had their water supply turned off by the Village for non-payment of charges. Water was turned back on when money due was collected.
