LASALLE – Join the Illinois Valley Center for Independent Living and the statewide Independent Living Council of Illinois for a free workshop, “Toolbox for employment: Building Social Capitol to Support Customized Employment.”

This program will be held on Monday, Aug. 14 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the IVCIL conference room. Presenters will be Marsie Frawley of Griffin-Hammis Associates and Cindi Swanson, parent of an adult with a disability.

At this free workshop, learn more about creative employment options, building social capital and how different scenarios may affect Social Security or other benefits.

Topics will include: increase the employment of individuals with disabilities by encouraging the use of local contacts through friendships, relationships, business contacts and places where individuals do business; increase the employment of individuals with disabilities by utilizing customized employment and exposing the target audience to potential opportunities for self-employment; and dispel the myth that if individuals with disabilities work they will lose their SSI or SSDI benefits and they will lose their health insurance.

A certificate of attendance can be available. Light refreshments will be served.
