LaSALLE – Four Mendota Trojan golfers extended their season by at least another week after participating in the LaSalle-Peru Class 2A Regional Golf Tournament on Oct. 7 at Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Course.
While not qualifying for the sectional as a team, the Trojans did have four of the top 10 golfers not on qualifying teams, thus they earned bids to the sectional round.
Colton Scheppers led the way for Mendota with a round of 84. Checking in next for the Trojans was Ethan Hanaman with an 87. Also securing a trip to the sectional were Taylor Joyce with an 88 and Zeke Hessenberger with a 90.
Other golfers playing for the Trojans but falling short of the sectional were Logan Brandner (96) and Jack Beetz (101).
The meet medalist was Deven Stewart of Freeport with a 76.
The top three schools in the team standings landed automatic berths in the sectional. They were Ottawa (337), LaSalle-Peru (339) and Rock Falls (341). Mendota finished in fourth place with a 349. The rest of the participating schools included Stillman Valley (370), Streator (372), Sterling (373), Freeport (387), Rochelle (422) and Dixon (436).
The sectional will be hosted by Burlington (Central) High School and will be played at Whisper Creek Golf Course in Huntley on Monday, Oct. 14. The top 10 individual golfers not a part of the top three automatic qualifying teams will move on to the state tournament on Oct. 18-19 at Weibring Golf Club in Normal.
