Four Seasons Gardening program offers free spring series webinars

LA SALLE COUNTY - The University of Illinois Extension’s Four Seasons Gardening series continues in April and May. The public is invited to participate in this free webinar series.

The next session, “What’s That Bug? How to Identify Insects” is set for Tuesday, April 27 at 1:30 p.m. Have you ever spotted an insect and wondered what type of insect it was? Insects are all around us and play important roles in our ecosystems. Join Horticulture Educator Ken Johnson as he explains how to identify different groups of insects commonly found in Illinois.

The final session this spring, “Green Screens, Fences and Borders” will take place on Tuesday, May 11 at 1:30 p.m. The home landscape can be thought of as an extension of our living space and much like the rooms in our homes we can use plants as structural elements in the landscape. If you have visited an arboretum or botanical garden you have likely seen walls created with different plant species such as evergreens and perennial shrubs. Horticulture Educator Austin Little will explore these design elements, some good species for creating screening, and design considerations for creating a green fence or screen successfully.

Webinars are available for viewing from wherever you have internet access by

pre-registering at go.illinois.edu/fourseasons. Recorded videos of these sessions can be viewed following the program at go.illinois.edu/fourseasonsrecordings. Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all local county offices are currently unable to offer viewing options at those locations.

Each session is free to the public. Advance registration is needed. You may call the LaSalle County office for more details at (815) 433-0707, or e-mail Extension Program Coordinator Meg Overocker at meo@illinois.edu.
