Dr. Richard Rouse

MENDOTA - “Leadership Training for the Missional Congregation” will be the topic of a seminar to be held at First United Methodist Church of Mendota on Saturday, April 29.

The seminar will be presented by author Dr. Richard Rouse, who will share the vital signs of a missional church and ways to help congregations reclaim their vocation as a mission outpost and training center for today’s disciples. The program distinguishes the difference between a chaplaincy model church whose priority is solely parishioner care to that of a missional church, which gives equal priority to outreach in the community and evangelistic sharing in practical ways.

This practical seminar will also explore the key practices of a healthy church leader and why such leaders are vital to helping a congregation effectively maneuver times of anxiety and change. The presentation is based on a 2016 book, “Beyond Church Walls,” written by Rouse as a sequel to his earlier book, “A Field Guide For the Missional Congregation.”

In his books Rouse encourages communities of faith to embrace God’s mission for the care and healing of the world. This is a rare opportunity to see a nationally renowned presenter coming to this area.

This free event will take place from 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. on April 29. A love offering will be taken to cover Rouse’ travel costs. His new book will be on sale at the event, but supplies are limited. Participants are asked to send an e-mail to the First UMC office with their name so hand-out materials can be reserved and to indicate if you wish to purchase a book.

Reservations can be sent to secretary@firstumc.comcastbiz or call (815) 538-5587. All unreserved books will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

First United Methodist Church is located at 100 East 6th St., Mendota.
