MENDOTA – Rochelle lit up the scoreboard from the opening tip and cruised to a 65-50 triumph over the Mendota Lady Trojans in a nonconference game on Jan. 9 at the MHS gym.
The Lady Hubs rode the hot hand of Morgan Baker to a 28-point first-quarter outburst and they led Mendota 28-8 after the opening stanza. Baker had 15 of her 20 points in the first frame.
“We came out and moved the ball well in the first three minutes, but then it became an absolute mess at both ends of the floor,” said MHS coach John Hansen. “We didn’t roll over in the second half and battled back to within 12.”
Amellia Bromenschenkel led the Lady Trojans with 11 points, followed by Larkin O’Donnell with 10 and Alex Barrera with nine. Phalen Hessenberger topped the team with eight rebounds, while Abby Phalen provided six caroms.
