MENDOTA - A section of First Avenue in Mendota is now closed as the final phase of the First Avenue bridge project begins. The long-awaited flood control measure started last year when First Creek was straightened, utilities were moved and easements put in place. In this phase of the project, the old bridge will be removed and a new one constructed. During construction, traffic on First Avenue will be detoured between Eighth and 10 streets. (Reporter photo)
