MENDOTA – The Mendota freshman-sophomore football team couldn’t find the end zone to start the season and suffered a 26-0 setback to Dixon in a Big Northern Conference contest on Aug. 25 at the MHS field.
Dixon held a 14-0 halftime lead, getting touchdown runs of 34 and 18 yards from Sebastian Quintana in the first and second quarters, respectively.
The Dukes tacked on two more scores in the third period. Aidan Schmall gathered in a 22-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Schafer, while Payton Simmons ran back an interception 34 yards for a TD.
Mendota gained 138 yards in the game, with 83 coming on the ground. Cody Jenner rushed eight times for 52 yards.
Quarterback Gavin Glazebrook completed a pair of passes for 55 yards. Naseem Gray and Jayger Thorne had the receptions.
