Brute was born May 3, 1930 in LaSalle to Harvey and Genevieve (Zelenski) Schrecengost. He married Donna Marie Harmon on July 26, 1958 in Earlville. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Anne (Tim) Bonadeo of Channahon, Marie (Chris) Carberry of Lake in the Hills and Carol Schrecengost of Arvada, Colo.; six grandchildren, Drew (Kristin) Bonadeo, Ian (Janet) Bonadeo and Erin Bonadeo, Kyle Carberry and Sean Carberry, and Kevin Schultz; two great-grandchildren, Timmy and Ansley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister, Audrey Boyle.

Brute was a proud member of the U.S. Navy, serving as a radioman 2nd class during the Korean War. He was also a member of the NRA and the American Legion. He served as a volunteer fire fighter in Earlville. He had his daily routine that included visiting the ladies at Casey’s every morning and taking excellent care of his pride and joy, his lawn. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and when visiting Colorado, one of his favorite historical sites was the grave of Buffalo Bill. In his youth he shot pool, ran track and was the pitcher for the Earlville Rangers Baseball Team. He loved fishing and hunting but most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
