MENDOTA - Ethel A. Happ, 97, passed away June 27, 2017 at OSF Saint Paul Medical Center, Mendota.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 3 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Peterstown with Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 2 at the Schwarz Funeral Home, Mendota with a 1:30 p.m. rosary.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, James Bankes, Colby Sawin, Benjamin Newman, John Hess, Nick Matuszewski, Jacque Manicki, Christopher Happ and Gabe Sudja.
Ethel was born March 3, 1920 in Ophir Township to Bert and Olive (Foster) Stevenson. She married Florian Happ on June 21, 1942 in Newark, N.J. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald (Chris) Happ of Decatur and Joe (Karen) Happ of Mendota; six daughters, Kathleen Bankes of Princeton, Elaine (Eugene) Sawin of Mendota, Elizabeth (Les) Newman of Granville, Phyllis (John) Hess of Marseilles, Anita (William) Matuszewski of LaSalle and Marjorie (Don) Sudaj of Oglesby; 28 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Dorothy Becker of Arlington Heights.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Ruth Johnson, Evelyn Eckhardt and Merna Stevens; three brothers, Ray “Sonny” Stevenson, Bill Stevenson and Wayne Stevenson; one grandson, Jason Happ; and one son-in-law, Richard Bankes.
Ethel was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. She belonged to Sts. Peter and Paul Church, the church’s Altar and Rosary Society, and a quilting club.
