Epperson to serve as interim superintendent


PAW PAW – The board of Paw Paw Community Unit School District 271 introduced the new interim superintendent, Dr. Steven Epperson at the July 15 board meeting. Epperson will serve until Dec. 31, 2019.

He earned his B.S. in Mathematics, an M.S.E. In Educational Administration and an Ed.D in Educational Policy and Leadership from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. He has had the role of a math teacher, principal and superintendent. After retiring as a superintendent, he took on the role of interim administrator and led numerous domestic and international school accreditation reviews. The board said they are thrilled to get someone who is so passionate about education and has a wealth of experience to help the school district through this transition. Epperson will be instrumental in laying the strong foundation needed to find a permanent superintendent in the near future.

The board also welcomed Dr. Lynn Gibson as a mentor for Eve Phillips as she moves into her new position as principal. Gibson has been involved in school administration since the 1990s. She earned her B.A. in Education, M.A. in Educational Leadership and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Northern Illinois University. She retired from her superintendent work to take on the role as the coordinator of the principal leadership program at Northern Illinois University. Gibson’s wealth of experience and guidance will be a strong asset to our school. Dr. Gibson will also serve until Dec. 31, 2019.

The board commented they are committed to providing a supportive environment for the administration and staff at Paw Paw School that ensures the best educational opportunities for the students.

With these new additions to the team at Paw Paw CUSD, they look forward to building an exciting and flourishing future at Paw Paw Schools.

The transportation committee again discussed the possibility of transporting students to IC for extra-curricular activities. It was decided not to provide a bus for after school activities, due to all the conflicts in scheduling. Bus 71 needs to be disposed of. A post for bids will be sent out. Otherwise the bus will be scrapped.

Update on the TRANE contract was tabled until more information is available.

The PTO has received bids for putting up the scoreboards and has the funds to do so. They will proceed.

The administration will be interviewing for new teachers for kindergarten and 1st grade.

A welcome letter will be going out to students. Some forms will be enclosed that need to be returned.
