MENDOTA – The Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce, sponsors of the 70th Annual Sweet Corn Festival, which will be held Aug. 10-13, has announced that preparations for the 2017 Sweet Corn Festival Tennis Tournament are being finalized. All matches of this year’s event will again be played at the Mendota High School tennis courts.
OSF Saint Paul Medical Center will sponsor the Sweet Corn Festival Tennis Tournament. The SCF Tennis Tournament will offer Junior and Adult Divisions, with the Juniors playing on Friday, Aug. 11 and Adults playing on Saturday & Sunday Aug. 12-13.
The Mendota Chamber has announced the competition will be a first round consolation draw, so everyone will be able to play a minimum of two matches. Juniors will now play an eight-game pro set and adults a 10-game pro set. All events are a blind draw.
The Junior events are: 13-under singles (boys and girls may play each other depending upon the number of registrants for this category); 17-under singles (boys and girls) and doubles (boys and girls), which again will all be played Aug. 11.
Adults are competing in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Adult doubles and mixed doubles are on Aug. 12. Adult singles will be held Aug. 13.
The entry deadline is Monday, Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. All players registering by then will receive a Sweet Corn Festival Tennis T-shirt. Entry forms may be picked up at the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce office and Sports-N-Stuff in Mendota.
