PRINCETON – Open Prairie United Church of Christ is hosting a community Christmas dance on Friday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. “Fezziwig’s Ball” will be an evening of English country dancing, inspired by the party hosted by Mr. Fezziwig, Scrooge’s first employer in Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. Country dances were common in Jane Austen’s era, but are similar to modern contra and square dances. Steps will be taught by Ron McCutchan and are easy to learn, but feel free to come just to watch and enjoy the ambience of an evening out of Victorian England. Light refreshments will be provided and there will be caroling and other entertainments amidst the dances. The evening is free, but a freewill donation in support of Open Prairie is encouraged. Open Prairie United Church of Christ is located at 25 E. Marion Street (behind the Apollo Theater) in Princeton. Ample parking is available in the city lot across the street from the church.
