Elks announce Mendota area Teens of the Month for November

MENDOTA - The Elks recently announced their November Teens of the Month, Meghan Davis and Cole Stremlau.

Meghan, a senior at Ohio High School, is the daughter of Misty Davis. She is currently 2nd in her class, has been on the honor roll every year of high school and in National Honor Society since sophomore year. She was on the volleyball team (freshman through junior) and was a co-captain (freshman and sophomore). She played softball (freshman and sophomore) and was All-Conference Academic for volleyball and softball (sophomore).

Meghan was class president (freshman), class treasurer (sophomore) and class vice-president (junior). She was in the school’s Variety Show (freshman through junior), was a crew member for the school play (freshman), participated in band and pep band (freshman), was in Drama Club (freshman), Student Council (freshman and sophomore), Science Club (freshman through junior), Renaissance (sophomore and junior), Reading buddies (freshman through senior) and part of the Pop Tab Committee (junior and senior).

Meghan volunteered with the American Red Cross Blood Drives (freshman through junior), helped with the Student Council’s Christmas activities (freshman through senior), volunteered at Ohio’s 1st Lutheran Church Thanksgiving Meal and their fish fry (freshman and sophomore), volunteered at Christmas for kids (freshman and sophomore), LYO Christmas Shopping for Kids (freshman and sophomore), participated with LYO Christmas caroling (freshman) and in ELCA Youth Gathering (sophomore).

Meghan enjoys hanging out with family and friends, loves playing volleyball and going to sporting events. She has been a 4-H member every year during high school and has helped at Kramer’s Kitchen booth each of those years. She currently works at Beck’s and has also done some babysitting throughout her high school years. She plans to attend a community college and then transfer to a four-year college to study medicine.

Cole Stremlau, a senior at Mendota High School, is the son of Tracie and Nicholas Stremlau. He has been on the honor roll all four years. He is an Illinois State Scholar and is a member of National Honor Society (junior and senior) and currently serves as National Honor Society Vice-President. He attended Illinois Boy’s State senior year.

Cole participated in basketball and track since freshman year, played football all four years and was a football co-captain senior year. He volunteered to help clean up the Ottawa park after the tornado (sophomore), helped cook sweet corn at the Sweet Corn Festival (all four years), helped organize shelves at Nightingale’s (junior and senior), volunteered to work at concession stands for sporting events (all four years), helped his neighbor shovel gravel (junior), tutored at Lincoln Elementary School (senior) and helped set up the beer gardens for the Sweet Corn Festival (all four years).

Cole enjoys traveling and helping his dad farm and likes trying new things (foods and activities). As a freshman and sophomore, he was a lifeguard at the Mendota Swimming Pool and since junior year has worked for Sicily’s Pizza. He attended TEC 206 junior year.

Cole plans to attend Illinois Valley Community College for two years and then transfer to a four-year university to get a degree in physical therapy.
