Hitchins earns PhD

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Jessi Hitchins, formerly of Peru, graduated with her PhD in Social and Cultural Studies from the University of Alabama. She successfully defended her dissertation titled, “Entanglements of Sexualities and Genders within Higher Education Employees and Policies.”

Hitchins received a Master of Science in Education in College Student Personnel Administration from Illinois State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science Secondary Education from Western Illinois University. Since 2015, she has been employed as the founding director of the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

She is the daughter of Gary and Cathy Hitchins of Peru and spouse of Jeff Horger, formerly of LaSalle. Her grandparents are Myrtle Hitchins of Peru (formerly of Mendota) and Glenn Camatti of Oglesby.

LaMoille student named Academic All-Conference Honoree

GALESBURG - Benjamin Hosto of LaMoille has been named to the Midwest Conference’s Academic All-Conference list for the 2016-17 academic year and athletic season.

Hosto, who is majoring in histor at Knox College, was recognized for academic performance while a Prairie Fire athlete in men’s cross country, men’s indoor track and field, men’s outdoor track and field.

The criteria to become an Academic All-Conference selection includes a minimum grade point average of 3.33, which is calculated only in the awarded academic year. First-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who letter in any of the MWC’s fall, winter or spring sports are eligible for the award.
