EARLVILLE – Earl J. “Mike” Mills, 90, of Earlville, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 in Rivershores Health Care Center in Marseilles.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 18, at Precinct Cemetery rural Earlville, with Chaplain Christopher E. Ausler officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Earlville.

He was born July 1, 1927 in Pekin, the son of William Earl and Mable (King) Mills. He married Betty Lou Johnstone on Oct. 4, 1952 in Geneva.

He is survived by one daughter, Vicky (Danny) Shamblin of Marseilles, and one son, Bruce (Colleen) VonOhlen of Lyons; 10 grandchildren, Micah, Arron, Jerome, Tommy, Brittany, Junior, Tayna, Crystal, Misty, and Kathy, and numerous great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma (Tommy) Littrell of Oakley, Ladena Qualls of Decatur, one brother Kenneth (Ann) Norman of Monticello, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty Lou, one daughter, Dianna L. Barnes, two sons, Robert Ronald VonOhlen Jr. and Michael R. Mills, one sister Barbara, and two brothers, Bud and Gene.

Mike proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WW II on the U.S.S. Wyoming Battleship and also served during the Korean War. He served as an alderman on the Earlville City Council for several years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, the Mason where he earned the 32nd degree.
