ANKENY, Iowa – Dwaine “Bud” Schneider, 84, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Mendota, passed away April 9, 2017 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on April 15 in the gymnasium at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ankeny.

Dwaine was born Dec. 26, 1932 in Greene County, Iowa to William and Eva (Goins) Schneider. He married Ruby Lashley on June 6, 1975.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Lisa (Don Andres) Schneider of New Jersey; Beth (Tom) Whalen of Mendota, Todd (Patricia) Schneider of Mendota and Joel (Julie Wicks) Schneider of Compton; three stepsons, Michael (Debra) Sondgeroth of Bloomington, Scott (JoDee) Sondgeroth of Ankeny and Jeff (Cyndi) Sondgeroth of Bureau; 10 grandchildren, Taylor Schneider and Tara Schneider, both of Mendota, Seneca (Mario) Lopez of Compton, Emily Cook of Mendota, Morgan (Shadoe Akers) Sondgeroth of Earlville, Cole Sondgeroth of Decatur, Erin Sondgeroth of Chicago, Delaney Sondgeroth and Dylan Sondgeroth, both of Ankeny, Iowa and Avery Sondgeroth of Bureau; and three great-grandchildren, Kayne, Aidan and Westyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ethel Ward.

After graduating from Malta High School, Dwaine enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. As a young man he worked his way through the auto parts business in Illinois before moving to Ankeny, Iowa and reviving a failing bumper re-chroming business. He eventually returned to the construction field where he operated heavy machinery for MacAninch Corporation in Des Moines. In retirement, he was known for his skilled woodworking and the ability to make friends with nearly everyone he met.
