PERU - Friends and family of radiologist Merle Piacenti, MD honored him with a retirement reception on June 20 at Senica’s Oak Ridge in LaSalle.
Dr. Piacenti is retiring after 37 years of medical practice in the Illinois Valley. During his career, he became well-known locally as an advocate of mammography as a mean of detecting breast cancer in women in its early stages. He and his physician group, Hospital Radiology Services, work at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley, where he joined the medical staff in 1980; Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru, where he joined the medical staff in 1993; and at OSF Saint Paul Medical Center in Mendota.
